**Welcome to Pre-Algebra!**

Students will be engaged in an accelerated math course which covers 7th and 8th grade standards. As a result, students will be prepared for Algebra I the following year.

Topics which we will be studying this year include integers, rational numbers, expressions and equations, inequalities, ratios and proportions, percents, constructions and scale drawings, circles and area, surface area and volume, probability and statistics, transformations, angles and triangles, graphing and writing linear equations, real numbers and the Pythagorean Theorem, volume and similar solids, and exponents and scientific notation.

Student grades for Mathematics will be based on a combination of Tests, Quizzes, Homework, and Class Work/Participation:

- 40% Tests
- 35% Quizzes
- 15% Lesson Work
- 10% Class Work/Participation

**Welcome to Algebra 1!**

Students will be engaged in a rigorous and enriching math environment where we apply our problem solving skills first hand. This Algebra course is designed for middle school (it is not a high school level replacement) and provides opportunities for deep engagement in the content material. Our lessons will go more in-depth than what they have in Pre-Algebra as each topic will build upon the previous topics.

Topics which we will be studying include: solving, graphing, and writing linear equations,; solving linear inequalities; solving systems of linear equations, linear functions; exponential equations and functions; polynomial equations and factoring; graphing quadratic functions, solving quadratic equations; square root functions and geometry; rational equations and functions; and data analysis and displays.
